The government has launched an aid package worth 7 billion rupees to sell key items at cheaper prices in 4,000 utilities across the country.
The Prime Minister said the aid package not only aims to ensure that the poor are supplied with flour, sugar, cooking oil, rice, legumes, and other important goods at cheaper prices, but also to check inflationary trends in the free market.
He found that high-quality flour was sold in supply stores at a subsidized price of 800 rupees per 20 kg sack.
Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Social Security and Poverty Alleviation, Chairman of the Ehsaas Program, Dr. Sania Nishter said on Saturday that a new grocery card system would soon be launched to provide nutritional food to a million deserved people as part of the Ehsaas program.
Speaking to the media, she said that special nutritious fortified food for infants under two years of age and vulnerable pregnant and lactating women would be ensured to avoid stunts.
As part of the Ehsaas program, she announced that 80,000 poor would be granted interest-free loans. They would also be supplied with sewing machines, livestock, and groceries for retail stores to start their own business.
She said the government’s budget for social security and poverty alleviation is being doubled.
This is an important step in achieving the goal of a truly welfare-oriented Pakistan and making optimal use of resources for the benefit of the poor.
She said up to 6 million women, identified transparently by the ongoing socio-economic registry survey, would receive a scholarship for their savings accounts and improve their access to cell phones.
Up to 500 flat centers offer poor women and their children online access to free courses.
They would also have access to free school lessons, free IT courses, free adult education, and certificate courses for stitching, kitchen gardening, electricians, and plumbers.
